As part of our topic on China, Class 2 have been learning about the traditions of a Chinese New Year. They have made red envelopes, but instead of putting money or sweets inside, they wrote messages to each other. In keeping with the tradition of not opening the envelopes in the presence of the giver, the children have taken them home to read.  We also made lanterns.

Class 2 are studying China. They have been looking at The Great Wall of China and then, using different materials, built their own version in the classroom.

On Wednesday 12th December, Class 2 welcomed Woody the reading dog into school. He listened to the children read their Christmas stories. The Shropshire Star also came to visit us, and took lots of pictures. We made front page on Saturday’s paper. Here’s the link and some of the photos that were taken.

In Science this term, we have been looking at different materials and whether they are man-made or natural. The children have explored how different materials can change shape. They have explored the work of John Boyd Dunlop and how he had a science question, which he then investigated, leading to his development of inflated rubber tyres.

The children then explored a suitable material for a sandwich bag. They had to plan their experiment, carry out and record their results, before deciding which material was best

Class 2 have been investigated shape in our maths lessons. They have explored different 2D shapes and their properties. The children have made their own 2D shapes and the Year 1 children investigated how many octagons they could make with 18 sticks.

This afternoon, the ‘Super Safeguarding Squad’ organised activities for Class 2 to raise awareness for anti-bullying week. The children watched a short film and discussed what bullying was and how to get help.  They completed a range of activities, from word searches to designing posters for  a whole school competition. We had a super afternoon. Thank you to the Safeguarding Squad!

Class 2 prepared for the Harvest Festival by using Pointillism to create art relating to the Harvest. Year 2 children wrote acrostic poetry which were read out in the Harvest service.
